The Town of Deià, Mallorca
The town of Deià, in Mallorca, is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It is located in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, in a wonderful enclave adorned with green cliffs, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It was awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2010.
It is one of the places where artists from all over the world have found and continue to find inspiration for their works or where they have chosen to reside.
Deiá collects a lot of rainwater, so besides the stream that passes through the village, there are also various natural springs in the area. The landscapes of olive trees, holm oaks and pine trees are marvellous in this area.
Famous people such as the writer Robert Graves, whose home you can visit, musicians like Mike Oldfield, Andrew Lloyd Webber and some of the members of the Corrs chose Deià as their home, seduced by the relaxed lifestyle and beautiful setting.
The Deià cemetery which sits at the highest point in the village, offers excellent views of the valley and the Mediterranean sea, and is located next to the old San Juan Bautista parish church which has a defence tower from the 16th century which serves as a bell tower. The grave of British writer Robert Graves can be found here and is a place which is regularly visited by countless of his fans.
It is worth going up the steep streets of Deià to get to the top and enjoy the panoramic view.
